Seattle Felony Defense Attorney
What Crimes Are Felonies in Washington State?
Washington has three felony classifications: Class A, B, and C felonies. Class A felonies are the most severe, while Class C felonies are the least serious of the three classes.
The following is a breakdown of the felony classes in WA:
- Class A felony: Punishable by a maximum sentence of life imprisonment and a fine of up to $50,000. Common examples of Class A felonies include murder, rape, and assault with a deadly weapon.
- Class B felony: Punishable by a maximum prison term of 10 years and a fine not exceeding $20,000. Common examples of Class B felonies include manslaughter, burglary, and grand theft auto.
- Class C felony: Punishable by a maximum five-year prison sentence and a fine no more than $10,000. Common examples include lesser assault offenses, as well as theft of property valued from $750 to $1,500.
As we mentioned before, a felony conviction can have severe long-term repercussions – even after you complete your prison sentence. A felony on your criminal record can make it extremely tough to get a job, obtain a professional license, find a place to live, or live a normal life.
