Immigration

Trust in our detailed knowledge of U.S. residency and visa laws.

Thorley Defense Law provides strong guidance for people in all types of U.S. immigration matters. As an immigrant herself, Rebecca Thorley has first hand knowledge of how stressful and confusing this country's laws and regulations can be. Her passion for the United States has fueled her desire to help families and individuals seeking a life here. From our office in Seattle, we handle removal defense, spousal visas and a wide range of actions, such as VAWA petitions and asylum and refugee proceedings, to help individuals who are threatened by violence or persecution. As someone who also holds Canadian citizenship, Rebecca regularly assists clients at the U.S-Canadian border who wish to work here or have difficulties entering the country.

Strongly advocating for clients seeking a safe haven in America.

Even when people face threats in a foreign country or a violent home, it can be challenging to secure protection within the United States. Thorley Defense Law tirelessly advocates for relief under the various humanitarian programs, including:

Asylum and refugee status

People who are exposed to danger in their homeland can apply for asylum status (if already in the United States) or refugee status (for those still in their own country). Rebecca Thorley has volunteered with the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project and successfully argued asylum cases on a pro bono basis before the U.S. Immigration Courts in Seattle and Tacoma.

DACA

Rules governing the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program have been hotly debated over the past several years. Rebecca Thorley is vigilant about staying up to date on the latest developments to offer thorough assistance to clients who were brought into this country as children and are determined to remain here.

VAWA

Women and children who have been victimized by domestic abuse committed by a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident can petition for an adjustment of status that allows them to find a safe home and stay in the country. Thorley Defense Law advises self-petitioners under the Violence Against Women Act and fights to give them the safe environment they deserve in the United States.

As immigration and visa issues are governed by federal law, Thorley Defense Law is able to represent clients in courts throughout the United States. The firm is dedicated to making the process as easy as possible by offering flat fees and payment plans to make your case affordable.

Becky is an absolute lifesaver. When I was denied a visa last year, she was so understanding and explained to me exactly why I was refused - I was clueless! She discussed my options thoroughly with me and in the end I decided to stay in the UK. I am now arranging a visit to the US but I was refused an ESTA due to the first visa denial, so again, I reached out to Becky. She helped me prepare for my interview at the embassy and put me at ease straight away, and sure enough, this morning my tourist visa was approved! She is amazing, so honest, clearly very experienced and knowledgeable in the field, and I couldn’t recommend her more. Thank you, Becky, for everything!

We handle removal defense, spousal visas and green cards too!

Rules set by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) are complicated and subject to frequent changes. Whether you're looking to obtain a green card signifying lawful permanent resident status, bring your spouse or fiancée/fiancé to this country or adjust your immigration status, we will make sure that everything is in order before you start the process. Thorley Defense Law will assess your chances for a successful outcome and make sure that time and money are not wasted. Likewise, if you have received a Notice to Appear related to a removal action, we take aggressive action to prevent your deportation, even if an arrest or document problem is being used against you.

We advise Canadians on TN NAFTA professional applications.

With ties to Canada and the United States, Rebecca Thorley is particularly qualified to handle TN visa applications that are available to Canadian citizens under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Whether you are an individual seeking entry to work in the United States, or a business looking to bring a Canadian employee to this country, we will make sure that you have proper documents and credentials before starting the process.
